MYOFASCIAL RELEASE THERAPY IN LOS ANGELES AND ORANGE COUNTY
At AMA Skincare, we know that the most beautiful skin is possible only if the whole body is healthy. That’s why we offer therapies such as Myofascial Release, a holistic modality that treats a deep hidden source of pain that acupuncture, bodywork and chiropractic can’t reach, in order to eliminate the cause rather than simply provide temporary relief from the symptom. The therapeutic goal is to eliminate pain by making profound structural changes in the densely woven fascia (a connective tissue membrane) covering and encapsulating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein in your body, as well as organs including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord. When myofascial sheets become constricted, the entire body becomes energetically congested, and in addition to discomfort, systems simply do not work well. Released myofascial membranes affect just about everything, from fluidity of pain free movement to digestion, elimination and overall energy and feelings of wellbeing. Most patients feel deeply relaxed, balanced and in better alignment after each session. We invite you to discover the long-lasting pain relief and increased wellbeing of Myofascial Release.

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue (fascial system) constrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential gentle pressure applied slowly will allow the viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate and release. Myofascial Release therapy is a comprehensive way to treat the body holistically targeting and treating the cause or source of many problem. Symptoms are eliminated in order to make permanent structural changes within the body to help the patient return to a pain-free, active lifestyle.
Trauma, inflammatory responses from injury or overuse, and/or surgical procedures create myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that don’t show up in many standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.). An extremely high percentage of people suffering with pain and/or lack of motion may actually be having fascial problems. Most patients go undiagnosed because the fascial system is not visible on x-rays and scans.

Fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider’s web or a sweater. It is very densely woven, covering and encapsulating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein, as well as all of our internal organs, including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord. The most interesting aspect of the fascial system is that it’s not just a system of separate coverings, it’s actually one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption. Picturing it this way helps you see that each part of the entire body is connected to every other part by the fascia, like the yarn in a sweater. Fascia plays an important role in the support and function of our bodies, since it surrounds and attaches to all structures. In the normal, healthy state, fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration. It has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. When one experiences physical or emotional trauma, scarring, or inflammation, the fascia loses its pliability. It becomes tight, constricted, and a source of tension to the rest of the body. Trauma, such as a fall, car accident, whiplash, surgery, or just habitually poor posture and repetitive stress injuries have cumulative effects on the body. The changes caused by trauma in the fascial system influences the comfort and function of the body. Fascial restrictions can exert excessive pressure, causing all kinds of symptoms including pain, headaches or and motion restriction. These restrictions affect our flexibility and stability, and are a determining factor in our ability to withstand stress and perform daily activities.

Each Myofascial Release treatment session usually lasts 60 minutes, and is performed directly on skin WITHOUT oils, creams or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial constrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia. The ideal attire to wear while having therapy is loose clothing - shorts and a small tank top or loose fitting sports bra for women; shorts for men - to ensure your comfort and the therapist’s ability to access each part of your body. Multiple modalities of light stretching, gentle pressure, along with a wide spectrum of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapies are utilized throughout treatment. Most often the patient will leave each session feeling extremely relaxed, grounded, balanced and in better alignment.
